32 MIN
The UJ Residences Committee has been established to investigate challenges in residences, including but not limited to compliance with minimum norms and standards, infrastructure, and safety issues. The committee comprises of Facilities Management, Protection Services, Student Affairs, Information and Communication Services, Community Involvement, UJ FM, Central Technical Services, etc. The work of this committee culminated into a presentation to the MEC, wherein the estimated cost for compliance with the norms and standards and refurbishment of specific residences were presented.
The UJ Residences Committee is henceforth planning to launch a campaign on Friday, 21st July 2023 from 12:00 to 16:30, focusing on keeping UJ residences clean and safe, and reducing water and energy consumption. The latter will take advantage of energy meters that were installed on various residences in the year 2014, and of which will enable the evaluation of energy consumption/saving to ascertain the best performing residences.
In addition to inviting the university Executive Leadership, the launch aims to attract participation of the provincial and local government officials through the UJ Community Engagement. Similar campaigns will be rolled out to various Campuses following the launch, and a schedule will be communicated in this regard.
